Explorer Post

The Union County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 242 is a program geared for helping young adults learn about the law enforcement field and community service. Young adults from the ages of 14 to 20 years old can join the post. Explorers also participate in a physical fitness program that prepares them for what they might expect in a law enforcement training academy. The UCSO Explorers assist with senior citizen events and the fingerprinting of children for ID kits. UCSO Explorers wear a professional uniform and are also issued physical fitness training gear. The Sheriff’s Explorers will also be eligible to attend the North Carolina Justice Academy’s ‘Explorer Academy’ which is held every summer in Salemburg, NC. Please contact the UCSO Community Resources Bureau for more information at 704-283-3765.

S.A.L.T.
Seniors And Law Enforcement Together

S.A.L.T. is a volunteer group of senior adults that work with Union County law enforcement agencies regarding issues and events relating to senior citizens of Union County.

S.A.L.T. volunteers assist jail personnel with the visitation desk and in other areas of the Sheriff’s Office as needed by the Sheriff or staff. They are actively involved with the Crime Stoppers Bar-B-Q, Senior Citizens Day, National Night Out, and other Sheriff’s Office sponsored events as well as other activities held in Union County.

S.A.L.T. meets the first Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office and is always looking for new members who, like them, have a desire to work along side of law enforcement to make a difference in the lives of our senior adults in Union County.

If you would like to receive a program that’s not listed, such as Gang Awareness, contact the Community Resources Bureau at 704-283-3765 or by e-mail at: williamthompson@unioncountync.gov.
