07-09-2022 UCSO Investigates Drowning Incident at Lake Monroe

At approximately 4:20 this afternoon, UCSO deputies responded to Lake Monroe along with Union EMS, Stack Road Volunteer Fire Department, Monroe Fire Department, and Charlotte Fire Department in reference to a possible drowning. 35-year-old Armando Perez-Cruz of Monroe was visiting Lake Monroe and jumped in to the water to swim. According to witnesses on scene, Perez-Cruz went beneath the surface of the water while swimming and was not seen again. A search of the water where Perez-Cruz was last seen was completed by members of the Monroe Fire Department and the Charlotte Fire Department’s Dive Team. Perez-Cruz was found deceased under the water and his body was recovered from the lake. Detectives investigating this incident do not suspect foul play at this time. The UCSO will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. We would like to thank all of the local first responders for their assistance along with the Charlotte Fire Department’s Dive Team.
