On 10/13/2022 at 10:30 AM, the Union County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) will host a grand opening ceremony marking the completion of the UCSO’s new Administration Building which is located at 3370 Presson Rd. in Monroe, NC. This date marks the two-year anniversary of the Groundbreaking ceremony held on 10/13/2020.
In November of 2018, the voters of Union County approved a Public Safety Bond which included the funding required to design and build the UCSO’s new Administration Building. The UCSO currently consists of approximately 360 employees comprising deputy sheriffs, detention officers, and civilian administrative personnel who provide 24/7 service and support to over 240,0000 residents. The current Administration Building, which is located just behind the new Administration Building, was opened in 1994 when the UCSO consisted of approximately 110 employees and Union County’s population was approximately 95,000 citizens.
The new Administration Building will be immediately put to use and this new space unlocks tremendous opportunities for local law enforcement agencies. The new Administration Building will be the site of Union County’s first full-service Crime Laboratory. The on-site ability to analyze critical evidence immediately in criminal cases will vastly improve the time it takes to identify suspects and make arrests when necessary. The UCSO will also begin to process blood testing kits in the near future on Driving While Impaired cases and be able to produce results in weeks, not months. This is just one example of the many capabilities and advantages the new Administration Building will offer our agency and our community.
Sheriff Cathey adds “The people of Union County saw a need for our agency to have a new space to grow and prepare for the future in. We will continue to dedicate ourselves to keeping our community safe as we transition to this new building and efficiently utilize the new capabilities and space that it offers. We will continue to work closely with other local and regional law enforcement agencies and offer our services to them when they are in need. I look forward to what the future holds for this agency and would like to thank the
Union County Board of County Commissioners, our County Management Team, and most importantly the voters/citizens of Union County”.
