Earlier today, UCSO deputies arrested two suspects charged in connection with the recent property damage incident that began as a “senior prank” at Sun Valley High School late last week. As a result of this extensive and ongoing investigation, 21-year-old Javier Sheffield (non-student) and 18-year-old Nalen Geoffroy (student) were charged by UCSO deputies after being identified as the two primary suspects responsible for the costly damage to the school’s computer equipment and electrical panels. As a result of their actions, both Sheffield and Geoffroy have been charged with the following criminal offenses.

- Felony Damaging Computers (NCGS 14-455)
- Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property (NCGS 14-160)

Sheriff Eddie Cathey adds “The damage caused by these suspects during this “prank” is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The total cost of necessary repairs or replacements is still being calculated but is expected to be valued at over twenty thousand dollars. Local parents need to be extra vigilant this time of year and ensure their children are making smart decisions that will keep them from jeopardizing their futures.”

Both Sheffield and Geoffroy are currently being processed into the Union County Detention Center and their conditions of release have not been set at this time. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming. Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies will continue to increase patrols on and around our school campuses in order to deter any further property damage incidents.
